Facebook photos… *click!*
I’ve always liked photography. I’m pretty terrible at it myself – and I’m not the most photogenic of people – but I like the idea of taking a snapshot of time, freezing it forever. Sounds a bit wussy, I know, but whatever: it’s what I think.
I sometimes think that Facebook photos fall out of my idealistic, philosophical, wanky view of photographs. There’s endless stories picked up by the media of people being wonderfully naive with Facebook photos – resulting in not getting jobs, getting evicted, getting fired, getting fired, and even more people being fired. Then again, the photos on Facebook are generally personal, actually meaning something to the individuals behind the camera or in front of it, so it’s a bit hypocritical of me to wander down this path.
Guess I’m just not a big fan of the stupidity of some people… If you’re going to put up pictures of yourself doing certain things, then you’re fair game for the repercussions.
But I detract. Brought to my recent attention is this nifty Facebook Photo Trends infographic from the awesome people at Pixable.
It’s full of interesting data and well worth a look, but the highlight for me was that by Summer 2011, Facebook is expected to have had more than 100bn photos uploaded. That’s some pretty epic thrashing their servers will have to take.
